Scientific Name: Felis Jacobita
Listed as Endangered in: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru
Andean Cats are found in the Andes Mountains, in terrain that is dry, windy, and cold. The Andean Cat is rare and the least known. They are about the size of house cats and only reach the average weight of twelve pounds. Little is know about how they socially act because it is believed that the species prefers to be alone. Their diet could possibly consist of small mammals, along with birds and reptiles. No Andean Cats are held in captivity and very few are seen in the wild. No one knows the current population status of the Andean Cat. The threat the Andean Cat faces is poaching by the locals. The Andean Cat Alliance and Conservation International is currently studying this species to help them from becoming extinct.
